THE SIREN

She could take over the world with her song

And I just know if she did

I’d be singing along

For she pierces the silence

Draws out the helpless

And makes them hope.

Her lyrics

They fly through the air

And even at the bottom of the ocean you know

Up there

Someone cares.

You could traverse the globe

And you wouldn’t find

A melody quite like hers

In all the bird’s song

All the pop tunes

Because the folk tales can only describe it

And I’m so lucky to have heard

With my own ears.

She’s talented beyond belief

Stronger than she knows Her days she trains in water

Yet her embers ever glow

And though she smiles and she pouts

She’s trapped between reality and imagination

Because who’s to believe such a person exists.

They say she’s fictitious

A figment of the mind

A shadow on the ocean

Just another of her kind.

But she isn’t an illusion

No matter what the others say

She ran to the shore and dived in

To embrace the coming wave

I know she’ll cross the ocean

One day breaking free of shame

So I'll sit here and patiently listen

Until the day she forgets my name.
