Thank You Note

To Xxx Xx Xxx

You've turned the worst times of my life into days I want to remember

You give me a smile and suddenly that's all I've ever wanted

When things get lost you find them

When times get rough you calm them

When I can't stand you pick me up and set me on your shoulders.

Because now I know

That friendship stands the test of separation

It lasts the differences of time

It outnumbers every negative thought I've ever thunk.

And I questioned, in the event that we'd met today for the very first time

If these few friends I had would still be friends of mine

And I realize that the answer no longer matters,

Because we met for the first time once, didn't we?

And now here we are.

Because through origami and anime

Homework and heartache

Doubting and believing,

Succeeding and failing

From every book we read together from cover to cover

Every parking lot we've trekked

Every rap battle we've won

Every time we broke out into song and knew all the lyrics.

To friends, to enemies, to the in-betweens,

To the friends of friends that I might never know quite as well

To the people that came and the people that couldn't

To the ones that were always and the ones that are now

With every tear, every word, every stuffed animal.

Of all that these fifteen years have brought me

You were the best.

And maybe - just maybe

I could learn how to love like you.
