One of this Day

You will only ever live One of this day Between these 24 hours Midnight to midnight Hand over heart in life In love An oath A covenant With some unknown Future That means absolutely nothing now But one day will be everything. Give a piece of now into another day While at the same time Not losing a second Because minutes and hours They flood rooms and empty halls Classes, the clarity in your glasses Until it finds no one to reside in And backs out of the room before you realize it’s gone. Like sunshine painted on lilac walls Silhouetting childhood fantasies and fairytales that Stood on our bookshelves Like proud parents Loving how easily we believed Inspired by the light in our eyes Seeing real beauty in infatuation with an object undivine But staring at it like it meant the world What you held in your hands was always exactly what I wanted When playing games til lights out and vegetables were something to be picky about For life is in every second it takes for you to walk home Every bus ride Every sunlit treetop and Every cloudy night. Conquerors of lives unlived Holders of something we cannot touch Thinking up things that don’t exist Cause life is so fragile, malleable and manipulative Manifest a destiny that can’t be knocked over Worth every penny Live something more We are more See the beauty in your eyes See the smiles that you create Know the changes you can entice.

If only you look.

If only you try.
