Hello friends!
So! After nearly four months of persistence from one of my friends, I finally managed to start this TV show and let me just say,
WHY HADN'T I LISTENED TO HER SOONER!
(If you see this buddy, I know I already told you BUT YOU WERE RIGHT)
This show is AMAZING! It's only been...less than I week...and I've just finished the first season...
It's that good. Only the best shows do I binge watch this fast. I've refrained myself from looking onto the internet too much, at the risk of finding spoilers. Before starting the show, I had listened to a couple of the songs with no context whatsoever. Fortunately, I don't remember a lot from them, so hopefully I can still experience the full effects of those songs. (If you want to know, it was "It's Over, Isn't It?" I have a vague now of what it may have been about, but I have no intention to find out exactly what until I actually get to that point in the show. So sis, please don't tell!)
Anyway, the show in a whole it just, beautiful! It's soundtrack first off, is amazing! And every character gets developed, even the seemingly uninteresting background characters, which every so often step into the limelight. It's fortunate that Beach City has a population of like, fifteen. Makes sure you know everyone.
But our main cast, Steven Quartz Universe, and the Crystal Gems, Garnet, Amethyst and Pearl are terrific! A wonderfully strange relationship between the four of them - they're a family. And you really see them grow throughout the season. All of them have a past, and as they continue their mission protecting Earth and fighting gem beasts, we can really see what the gems sacrificed for what they have now. Steven Universe, our protagonist, in the beginning I loved him, but I also found him slightly annoying. I mean, I got that he was a kid and all, but some of the things he did were so outrageously stupid, I feared the show was just going to be another one of those things.
Boy, was I wrong.
Steven is young, but over the course of the show, he really does grow. And in the "Too Many Birthdays" episode, he does so literally. Sure he's juvenile at times, but he also seems a lot more mature than me. He's really the one that holds everyone together, and you can see that he doesn't take the other gems and other people's love for him for granted, but completely returns it without fail, time and time again.
Each and every character is amazing and cool and awesome and honestly, I aspire to be like them someday. They're great role models and dang, if I had friends like them, it would be the COOLEST THING EVER.
Though I was once hesitant to enter Steven's universe, I found it to be a marvelous place. World-building is another of the things done really well. The gems and their origins were very interesting, and they manage to weave it into a Earth with many parallels to reality. It's very interesting indeed!
Have a happy weekend everybody! Enjoy you're sleep and value your time! And maybe watch some Steven Universe! But unlike me, after you finish your homework! :D
